Square Bubble for a Cozy Blog Redesign

I was recently tasked with redesigning the header for a lifestyle blog that focuses on mindfulness and simple living. The client wanted something warm, inviting, and visually cohesive across all platforms—from their website to their Instagram feed. After testing several fonts, I landed on Square Bubble, a display font that brought exactly the tone they were looking for.

A Font with Personality

Square Bubble has a charming, casual rhythm that feels like a handwritten note from a friend. Its rounded edges and soft curves give it an approachable feel, while its structured square bases add a touch of order and balance. It’s not overly decorative, which makes it perfect for editorial use where readability still matters.

What stood out to me was how Square Bubble maintained clarity even in larger sizes. It didn’t feel too playful or too rigid—it found a sweet spot between whimsy and professionalism. This made it ideal for titles, section headers, and pull quotes throughout the blog redesign.

Using Square Bubble in Real Projects

For the blog header, I paired Square Bubble with a clean sans serif font for navigation and body copy. The contrast worked well, allowing the header text to stand out without overwhelming the rest of the design. I also used it for featured article titles and newsletter subject lines, where a friendly yet polished look was needed.

In the digital magazine layout I helped create, Square Bubble was used for chapter openers and sidebars. It added visual interest without distracting from the content. For a printable planner I designed, I incorporated it into the title page and weekly headers, giving the project a consistent and warm aesthetic.

One thing I noticed was how Square Bubble handled different weights and styles. Though it’s primarily a display font, it offered enough variation to be used for both emphasis and subtle accents. This flexibility made it a go-to choice for any editorial element that required a bit of personality.

Readability and Practical Use

When choosing a display font, it’s essential to consider how it will perform across different mediums. Square Bubble proved to be a solid choice for screen reading, especially when used in moderation. It scaled well on mobile layouts and maintained legibility in PDF exports, which was important for the client’s downloadable guides and e-books.

For print materials, the font had a crisp and clean appearance, making it suitable for both short-form content like social media posts and longer-form pieces such as magazine articles. I found that it worked best in headlines and subheadings rather than long paragraphs, where a more readable body font would be necessary.

Font Pairing and Design Consistency

One of the key considerations in editorial design is font pairing. Square Bubble’s casual nature made it easy to pair with more traditional typefaces. For instance, using a serif font like Georgia or Caslon for body text created a nice balance—Square Bubble provided visual interest, while the serif font ensured readability and a classic feel.

For captions and footnotes, I opted for a clean sans serif font like Helvetica Neue or Arial. This combination gave the design a modern yet warm identity that aligned with the blog’s overall brand voice.

I also checked the font’s file formats and licensing before finalizing the design. Square Bubble came in standard OTF and TTF formats, which made it easy to integrate into web and print projects. The commercial license allowed for use in client publications and digital downloads, which was crucial for the blog’s monetization strategy.

Another point worth mentioning was the font’s multilingual support. It handled a range of languages without issues, which was helpful for the blog’s international audience.

Bringing It All Together

By the end of the project, Square Bubble had become a cornerstone of the blog’s new design system. It wasn’t just a font—it became part of the brand’s identity. Readers commented on how the new look felt more welcoming and easier to navigate, which reinforced the importance of thoughtful typography in editorial design.

Whether you’re working on a lifestyle blog, recipe ebook, wedding guide, or coaching workbook, Square Bubble offers a versatile and expressive option that can enhance your content’s visual appeal. Its friendly yet professional demeanor makes it a great fit for a wide range of editorial projects, helping to create a more engaging and memorable reading experience.
